Since its early beginnings, Masriera has made outstanding use of enameling in its jewelry and precious metalwork. Today, like yesterday, the firm continues to use the many enameling techniques that has made it internationally known. Those techniques are: plique-à-jour, basse-taille, champlevé, and most importantly, Esmalt Barcelona (Barcelona Enamel) – a technique invented by Lluís Masriera.
The technical processes used by Masriera in the creation of their jewelry are very complex. They use original enamel recipes that give their jewels a singular translucent effect, changing according to the heat used to fuse the enamel, but the application is really delicate. Extreme skill and precision are two of the most important traits necessary for Masriera’s craftsmen to create these incredible works of art. Currently, Masriera is the only firm with its own fired enamel workshop. The Masriera workshop still meticulously produces with great attention and detail the many jewelry designs that have made their name synonymous with the Art Nouveau movement.
